David Sington goes beneath the surface

2007 Award of Special Merit, "Dimming the Sun"

Journalists who write about the environment know the importance of underwater exploration. And the public, in general, has had a fascination with the strange creatures that inhabit the ocean since Jules Verne penned Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea.

Director David Sington was on the team that received the Grantham Prize Award of Special Merit for “Dimming the Sun.”

Later that hear he captured the imaginations of scientists and laypeople alike as the executive producer of NOVA’s “Underwater Dream Machine,” which follows one man's determination to build a submarine with a panoramic view.
